I watched a presentation on Youtube a while ago regarding thorium reactors. The presenter admitted that thorium was not as likely to do a fusion thingamy as plutonium, but he was presenting in earnest.
I may be completely wrong here, but I took away from it that some people (Moly???) really need a market for their thorium. Irrespective of its suitability as a reactor fuel, it may go some way to mitigate the difficulty of dumping / re-using the bulk waste. (I suppose spent thorium just gets plonked next to the other spent fuels which are already acceptably being dumped??)
Anyhow, expect there to be a lot of people wanting this technology to be available as soon as possible. This could be what makes the global REE market work.
