Thanks for the reply Mark, yes but realistically it will not be until the tax is levied that will there be any certainty as to who will be paying and how much,
and, I believe the Govt knows that too, just like the GST raked in far more cash than was ever expected.
(Remember Peter Costello's smirk when the real figures came out)
My thoughts were the same that it would be ideal to spin off several different companies owning a handful of vehicles each...it could be done sure, but I reckon ASIC or the ATO would put a stop to that real quick!
Australia Post would have difficulty with that as would many councils, eg Brisbane City Council which owns festoons of buses as well as trucks.
The carbon tax is going to snare many more businesses than the Govt has banked on, which will hurt the economy far more than they anticipate as well...
