A fireball erupted over Orica Limited’s (ASX:ORI) Port Botany plant late on Friday evening. While the chemical manufacturing company is yet to comment a Fire and Rescue New South Wales spokesman said the flare-up was due to a fault in a boiler causing excess gas to be burnt off.
Fire-fighters stayed on the scene into Friday night to ensure the burn-off proceeded safely.
No residents are understood to have been adversely effected but New South Wales past premier Kristina Keneally took to Twitter to post an image of the flames.
In the first half of the 2012 financial year Orica posted a net profit of $263.4 million.
