Chand, all the SMH has done is infer from the market release that negotiations are taking place.
THs are called when the company believes that they have material price moving information AND the market as a whole may not be uniformly aware of market sensitive information.
With major companies like AP and PB involved, the trading halt is a prudent move. It also allows speculation to build, but of course the SMH article wasn't planted and was a mere coincidence!
