the problem with the Fukushima accident in terms of emotion is that when politicians, such as many green groups, want to make capital out of their anti nuclear stance they make it sound like the whole devestation in Japan was caused by nuclear. In terms of safety many more lives are lost EACH year and health compromised by coal than was caused by any nuclear accident.

The plant at the Fukushima accident was first generation and was scheduled to and should have been closed prior to the Tsunami. They now have 4th generation generators and in terms of 'back up' power the incident at Fukushima taught many lessons that people thought would never happen and have now been catered for.

Unfortunately this doesn't help the nuclear industry one bit at the moment but meathead is correct in 3 to 5 years things will be more rational.
