bankrupt private school to close next week, page-37

My two primary school aged kids are about to leave the public system and go private mainly due to teaching standards.

Had an off the record conversation with a teacher at their school yesterday about some of the teachers in the school who perform extremely poorly in the classroom and are obviously only there "punching the clock". This teacher, who is exceptional, advised her frustration that the school was unable to remove poorly performing teachers in the state system - she advised they were virtually a protected species.

The last thing I want to do is pay school fees on top of the tax that we already pay but until real performance standards are enforced on teachers there is no guarantee that the govt. system can provide the standard of education that every child deserves.

I have seen the difference having a great teacher has on my daughters versus a poor teacher and the impact is huge.
