Yeah I do now, but I thought I would do the right thing and help give the young girl some security in the work place, I have now learnt a lesson, but I think she must have been brought up in the household that says you need to take your 10 sick days a year whether you sick or not.

    Artical today in the DT

WORKERS tempted to reach for the snooze button on a cold winter morning are warned bosses are getting sick of staff "chucking a sickie" and sacking them for deceitful acts.

Attempts to take a sick day when not ill have resulted in instant dismissals that are being upheld by Fair Work Australia.

Employers are taking an interest in the legitimacy of medical certificates, particularly those that do not give a specific reason for the absence.

"Sickies" cost Australian businesses $26 billion a year, with the Australian Bureau of Statistics reporting an average 2.6 per cent of the Australian workforce is absent due to illness on any typical work day.

In January, this average swelled by an extra 170,000 people who took the day after Australia Day off, securing a long weekend.

Research by global management firm SHL found 63 per cent of Australian workers have taken time off when not sick, 32 per cent have never taken a day off when not sick and 11 per cent consider sick days to be part of their salary and take their full allowance each year
