Well, regarding the one hundred million a day interest payment on our government debt. We finally have a figure or I should say two figures. One supplied by loric and another by Zoner. $250B and $243B respectively (what's a few billion here or a few billion there!) so we can do some calcs.
The government is paying 2% on borrowings. We will take the higher figure of the two (just to throw a few bucks about).
250B x 2 % comes to A neat and tidy 5B.
5B/365 comes out to a neat 13,689,630 per day interest.
Australia's population is (from the ABS 13,689,630).
$13,689,630/22,924,059 comes to 59 cents per day interest paid by each Australian.
A very small sum indeed considering the alternatives of high unemployment and social dislocation.
