I felt the bed moving, then the house shaking. I am in Albury, on the NSW/ VIC border.
We feel these tremors all the time....it is normal, par for the course.
In the past...I believe we had on average up to 1000 tremors a year.
If we were to have a big one...then watch out in Melb..
if the huge dam wall were to collapse...
ie; the HUME DALL wall...that holds the huge
HUME WEIR
apparently, once the wall collapsed, it would take only 20 minutes to engulf Melbourne
....I live on the south side of a hill, downstream ,around 10 klms, from the Hume Weir wall, about 100 metres above the river level...so I should be reasonably safe....
from memory, and research , many years ago....I should be safe, from the initial force, and impact....
Victoria, in general.. lies on a huge tectonic fault plate...which is subjected to tremors, on a regular basis.
PS...this is based on old research, going back more than 30 years.
Which may be wrong, or outdated,,,,in 2012
