He seems to be doing all the right things...not sure about a bottle of red per day! Usually lifestyle, food management and medication. They say that early intervention of medication may prevent further complications down the track.
I thought I had diabetes because a blood result came back with a spike. I had the glucose test(yuk...sugar overdose!) and then another blood test just to make sure about 3 months later. All came back negative. Not 'convinced' I bought a blood tester through eBay, brand new, $35 with 60 test strips and a control bottle of glucose included. Anything above 130 on fasting is a concern and it should be under 180 or so after a meal. Obviously these results have leeway...you need to find your average.
I bought one called Truetrack as the strips seemed more readily available on the internet.
