Australian resources company Mutiny Gold believes it has found one of the nation's largest copper deposits about 160 kilometres east of Geraldton.
Managing director John Greeve says the deposit, which forms part of the company's Deflector mine, has high grades of copper and gold.
He says the copper will bring in a quarter of the project's income in the first couple of years.
Mr Greeve says the operation, which is based in the Murchison, should be in production by January.
"The copper grade will get stronger and this will evolve into a major copper mine," he said.
"At the moment we've got about 27,000 tonnes but over two years we want to actually build that up to 100,000 tonnes of copper, that's what we're anticipating."
Mr Greeve says the project will employ a workforce of about 200 people.
"It's been a lot of hard work but the bankable feasibility shows that it's actually a premium project - extremely robust, low cost and highly profitable," he said.
"So we're just in the final stages of putting the project finance together and then we're off into production."
