I think her points are quite valid but perhaps may be coming across in a condescending tone.
Let's be honest, people here have a problem when there is a huge influx of people who look different, speak a different language and have different cultures. If you are different at school, you get picked on. This is the same thing.
I believe everyone is racist, some more than others.
The issue is around jobs. I side with the fact that in the past many Australians didn't have to struggle to get lower end jobs. Now that there are more migrants, it is much harder. People here feel an entitlement to have things handed to them because they haven't had a hard life. Many people who have migrated here are willing to work hard/harder to get the same jobs with low pay. If you are running a business, wouldn't you hire someone who will work hard and take lower pay? That to me seems like a win for the employer?
I can tell you that I was born here but because I don't have an Anglo-Saxon name I miss out on jobs because they look for anything to cull people. I don't have an issue with that, that is just how the workplace is, much more competitive.
I get annoyed when people complain and don't get off their backside and do something. Indian students do the shitty jobs anyway - driving taxis, cleaning, working in restaurants. Much of the time, they come to study full-time while working to be able to pay the high fees that Australian students don't have to worry about.
I also noticed that the some of the bashing of Indians were done sometimes by Europeans which I found ironic considering they were once immigrants here too.
Indians are quite racist, they cannot be denied just have to look at their caste system. They have also committed crimes against Australians in India so they cannot claim innocence IMO. I'm sure they would have problems if there was an influx of Australian/Europeans to India.
Lastly, I have noticed that there are quite a few Irish immigrants (who are awesome btw) coming in as conditions over there aren't great but I don't really hear anyone complaining about them. I wonder why that is?
