AGL unsure of Loy Yang job cut numbers

The new owners of the Loy Yang A power station in the Latrobe Valley will not say how many jobs could be cut at the generator.

AGL already owned a third of the power station and the company has now bought the remaining shares for about $450 million.

Anthony Fowler from AGL says Loy Yang A will continue to operate as usual under the carbon tax.

He says there is unlikely to be any job cuts in the mine and power station but there will be some job cuts in other areas.

"Where there are areas of duplication, if you like, that might happen with the trading team," he said.

"We've announced some changes there and in the corporate team you couldn't rule out job losses at that stage but I wouldn't rule out they'd be quite minor in the greater scheme of things."
