It sounds to me like you are far more concerned with financial considerations, with getting the optimum value from a heritage listed house by bypassing regulations, rather than looking after family members.
Our next house will need a granny flat for a rellie. The important thing for us is that it will work for her; car parking, access to the main house etc. etc. These are the advantages that we are looking for - ease of living for a disabled person.
