Mica tends to concentrate with graphite during air classification and may affect the recovery of graphite during froth flotation. But the result will depend on the type of mica present.
There are a number of different mica minerals, including muscovite (also called white or clear mica, it contains aluminum), biotite (black and containing iron and magnesium), and lepidolite (purple, and containing lithium and aluminum). There are also several lesser-known micas, including glauconite, paragonite, phlogopite (brown, and containing iron and magnesium), and zinnwaldite micas. Both muscovite and phlogopite are the two micas most often used as a commodity.
