Given that we live in a highly variable climate (we are only now totally drought free) what kind of advanced, highly technical farming practises are we going to adopt?
Should we (tax-payer) help subsidise farmers for learning / training / upskilling in the most advanced farming practises?
Have a look at Israel's farming practises as a guide to what serious investment in farming research can produce. Israel is hot and dry. Despite this they absolutely dominate in terms of agricultural output per hectare per litre of water.
