Those are the facts for the school of which I am a Director. The numbers are different depending on the school - lower fee schools rely more on government funding as a % than higher fee schools.
That some parents go without annual trips to Europe or the ski fields, whilst no doubt true, is hardly a compelling argument for directing scarce funding to private schools when disadvantaged public schools go without.
The nearest private high school to me is St Joseph's. Its website states it has eight rugby fields, two football fields, eight high-quality tennis courts, indoor and outdoor basketball courts and cricket nets, five turf and six artificial cricket wickets, a swimming pool and fully drained 400 metre running track, a well-equipped rowing shed located on Tarban Creek and weights and cardio gymnasiums.
Yet this school receives obscene amounts of Government funding that could be better used in a poorer public school.
