For months, my 13 year old son wanted Nike Free Runs because all his friends had them - we resisted, partly because his feet are a little wider and we wanted him to look at another brand. He persisted with his request and we finally relented - I took him to Rebel, ready to choose and he all of a sudden said, "don't worry about it - don't want them now".
Also, he has wanted Converse casual shoes for a while, but has been wearing a pair of Dunlop Volleys as knockabouts - they ultimately got completely trashed at a school camp, but he still wanted to wear them. So the time came for a new pair and possibly Converse, but, all of a sudden, "nope, just want another pair of Volleys". He wears them to parties, indoor and outdoor soccer training, despite us buying him better training shoes. He is a school rep in multiple sports, so its not as if he isn't aware of the best shoes for sport - go figure.
