Today's AFR 'Review' section contains a 3 page article titled 'China Means Business' by Alexander Benard who is the MD of Gryphon Partners, an advisory & investment company.
I recommend you obtain a copy of today's AFR just for this article as it is well worth reading.
In summary, the article describes the types of business tactics used by the Chinese government in developing countries to secure 'lucrative contracts, shape the structure of a resource sale, or freeze out Western companies'.
The article goes on to suggest that these sorts of tactics are leading to a declining popularity of Chinese companies in the developing world, and that there is an opening for the US (and presumably other Western countries) to regain the initiative in these markets.
The question, or issue, for SDL holders to work out is:
Where does Cameroon sit? Are they under the influence of China, or are they one of the countries willing to 'break' from Chinese influence?
