A company only has a P/E if it is making money. Many junior oil companie for that reason do not have a measurable P/E. Once any company starts producing a profit, then its P/E I would suggest is a measure of its future earning potential as judged by the market. If that company has a high P/E then the market is determining that its future earnings potential is good. Conversely, if it has a low P/E, as is the case with CUE, then the market is saying that the future earnings potential of that company at that point in time is pretty ordinary.
