I've also started doing investing. If you are interested in investing long term, you have to really look into both Technical Analysis (weekly charts), I started off looking into basic fundamental analysis (but somehow find that I've never made money at the start).
I've tend to rarely go into the Blue chips (the ones you've mentioned sound like Blue chips that have been in the news and getting crucified, a good strategy as well, do the opposite of what the mainstream news reports).
It's hard to find young age investors (<30 yr old ones), usually just ask around, typically you'll find some friend of a friend is also into the market.
