That is a Scandinavian characteristic. Logical self interest for the future benefit of all.
Australia's cringe mentality has put us in an economic straight jacket. Pandering politicians swaying in the wind of popularity have lead us down a one way path to mediocrity.
However we seem to have this belief that we can vote in any one on popularist beliefs and assume that we have sent the message that we demand our leaders plan for our future.
That you can forget if you only have 3 year terms. It would take at least a decade to forge a visionary path then only in the hope that preceding governments wouldn't meddle.
