New gold discovery in Queensland SYDNEY - The discovery of a significant new gold zone in far north Queensland has raised hopes of renewed mining activity in the region. ABC News Online reports the company Gold Aura Limited says it has found a high-grade gold zone north of Croydon in one of Queensland's oldest gold mining regions.
Managing director Rod Murdoch says he hopes there will be sufficient investment interest to develop the site.
"130,000 ounces have been outlined in the ground and there's some very excellent geological and geophysical targets nearby that are considered worthy targets for drilling," he said.
