some reality, page-25

Pumpa, IMO any riot act read out by the Africans to the PRC is a bit like a pillow fight between Labor and the Greens, it's all for show. Let's hope your hunch is right about a serious look-see by others.

Anyway, regardless of whether the Xstrata / Glencore merger succeeds or not, do you think the fact that Qatar soverign fund (who apparently is bullsh about the LONG TERM and may increase it's stakes in XTA to about 25% if the merger collapse) is a positive development ? I suppose Glencore and Xstrata can still cooperate in a joint IO strategy even in teh absence of a merger.

Here's some quotes from a good article....

...."But Qatar has expressed its long-term commitment to Xstrata. A more innocent explanation of its behaviour is that, looking through the present commodity cycle and into the years ahead, it sees Xstrata as a quality play that the current merger undervalues. It therefore remains determined to stop the merger so Xstrata’s true value can be realised at some point hence.

That said, it is going against Xstrata management’s advice that the deal goes through.

Whatever the truth, the reality is that Xstrata now has two major shareholders, Glencore and Qatar, both espousing the long-term nature of their position".....
