Generally the expansions by the big boys like Vale are for increased economies of scale. It is not because they believe prices would go back to $180tn.This reduces costs per tonne and ensures these giants continue with massive profits even under lower prices.Smaller high cost producers fall by the wayside which in turn supports prices.
Even so most experts agree that even if prices revert to the mean output will still need to increase going forward.
Regardless of current io prices there is no doubt Vale's acquisition of TN could not be more perfectly aligned.A world class iron ore deposit metres away from one of the biggest io mines in the world, averages 66% fe and their train line running along the fence.
I am still amazed we actually own it.WTF!Maybe that's what Vale thought too.
As someone posted previous last years announcement of Vale's option taken for a further 12mnths was on 15th Sep so we should know within 2 weeks.
I had always expected just the $1m but considering the mention of talks this time I am now giving it 50/50.
Go AVB!
