    Johno,

The party has been going for years, but unfortunately some arrived before the sun was up, some wandered in at lunchtime, some got bored hanging around. Lunchtime was awesome and there was some real hitting of the turps, but died into the early so quite few a left looking for a more hip party. Towards dusk, some came sensibly dressing in evening cobber for a few drinks and nibblies, and looks like you arrived late just just as the tables and chairs are being put away when it might break into a right royal knees up. So your not late.

Basically you are working out what most of us knew for a few years, but we had serial sleepy posters (zzz....) who regularly arrived during the day in a clowns suit to entertain what they thought was a kiddies birthday party. One guy burst in saying he was gonna call the cops and get a big reward. I understanding he is now dining out at the Salvos on pumpkin soup.

We've had some distinguished types, as well as the homely Henny Penny too (from wiki "Henny Penny, also known as Chicken Licken or Chicken Little, is a folk tale with a moral in the form of a cumulative tale about a chicken who believes the world is coming to an end. The phrase "The sky is falling!" features prominently in the story, and has passed into the English language as a common idiom indicating a hysterical or mistaken belief that disaster is imminent.)

Others jetted in from the Caribbean and swung punches in every direction, belched a bit and few tried to retrain him, but they declared they were for the off, and are bolting out the door.

There's an old codger in the corner. He mumbles all the time, of which the only intelligible thing he says is "August, bloody August". He's ok, and we keep him plied with a few.

We've got our fair share of wallflowers who only wander onto the dance floor seemingly by accident, and then there are others who sail through the crowds handing out coloured brochures gayly to any who want them, and of course the perennial clock watcher just staring at the clock counting down the hours to midnight oblivious to a party in full swing around them.

There a motley crew of others, good types, and earnest types, helpful types, know-it-alls like me. Lets all hope the taps are set to full blast and this turns into a right shindig. Your timing might be impeccable.
