FMG has too much debt and was working on overly optimistic assumptions, they must have short memories given what happened to a multitude of companies in 2007-08. "Talk and labor governments and other issues" have nothing to do with it.
As far as people pulling in their horns in regards to spending and slowing the economy, they're only moving back to historical levels of savings. It was only during the 2000's that our household savings rates went negative and our personal levels of debt skyrocketed.
The 2000's or what some look on as the good old days were a debt fueled illusion.
