For anyone interested,
Came across this article in "Medical Observer"
a magazine periodically sent to Melbourne GPs.
"They've transformed personal lives and now mobile device applications are increasingly making forays into the world of medicine.
The apps in today's health market take different forms. Some are aimed at patients, supplying information and guidance to help them manage health conditions.
Others are aimed at doctors, operating as information resources or, in some cases, to help diagnose and treat.
Leading the way into this brave new world is the US, where the FDA has already given official clearance to about 10 apps, allowing doctors to precribe them to patients.
One US firm has even developed an accessory that turns a simple iPhone into a functional ultrasound device.
While the TGA has so far not appraised apps for use as therapeutic goods, it has stated they can be treated as medical devices under its regulatory framework.
"The TGA acknowledges the enormous complexity involved in attempting to regulate this area and will continue to keep abreast of advancements in medical device technology" a spokeswoman said.
Dr Cassy Richmond has reviewed some of the most useful examples for GPs. You can find more in our new app directory on MO's iPad app."
