Evidently it is not a criminal offence of any kind in Australia to display placards bearing generalised murderous threats, whether you are a small child or a bearded angry-looking Lebanese bloke.

Kind of surprised me given all the anti-vilification laws and practices instituted in this country and even basic public order laws.

However, I'm an early adapter and so next week at the footy I'm thinking about getting the kids to carry placards that say 'Behead all critics of AFL umpiring'.

Not threatening to behead anyone in particular mind you, or even suggesting that it would be me (or the kids) doing it, but I would recommend just watching any remarks directed to the man officiating if you find yourself sitting nearby on the day.

Obviously, anyone later beheaded will have clearly brought it upon themselves by not heeding what is really just a friendly warning, if you look at it like that. Entirely self-selecting (voluntary, in effect) really, so what's wrong with that?
