G'day Kingpins,
Saturdays Age had a story in which the labour opposition was critising the government for continuing to consider the deepening and development of the Hastings port as a container facility.
As mentioned in the article the port has been used for shipping Bluescope steel products over the years but recently it has been under utilised.
Maybe both are still on the agenda, with Hastings to especially service the Latrobe valley, Mornington Peninsular and Dandenong area and Werribee to service the Western areas of the State.
I understand Hastings on Westernport Bay is considered a good port and as I mentioned you can get there by rail (even if a bit round-about).
Also heard in Yarram recently that it was planned to truck coal from the Latrobe valley to a port. The one suggested was Welshpool because the South Gippsland highway would not cope with the traffic. Also some suggestions that the Yarram line maybe refurbished and reinstated.
