The mother deserves an academy award for script writing and acting. She was a great manipulator and user of the media for her own gain i.e. to keep, the children with her. She was thinking about herself not the children.

The mother played the media and the public. From having the children hide and run away with the grandmother(?) and then saying she didn’t know where the girls were. Making sure the media knew every twist and turn. The mother deliberately turned it into a saga. She made sure there were interviews, photos of "poor innocent children"

And then for the finale. As one of the girls was being repatriated she yelled "no, you're going to hurt me". Oh! A great irrelevant and untrue statement designed for media. The girls were just doing what their mother asked.

Even the Judge made a comment on how he was disturbed by the use of the media.
