Only ever seriously backed two winners of the cup. Van Der Hum in 76 was by far the best result as I started backing it at 150/1. Remember working in Newman at the time and every Friday would read racing section of the Melbourne Truth. From memory Ron Taylor? was the journo and he knew his horses. I got onto Van Der Hum through this as he won on all the country tracks in NZ setting track records. His trainer was known as "suitcase Robinson" as he would travel anywhere to avoid the big races. Sadly the ex missus ended up with most of what I won but that's how it goes - she kept the money I kept my sanity.
Media Puzzle was the other winner.
For some reason Boss and the Diva never appealed to me. I usually punt a few at long prices early on and then couple them all up in trifectas.
