    Re your post which included;
    "... But let's not forget that there are also men and their children who have suffered from oppressive government policies in Australia. ..."

    There are indeed many very sad cases out there wherein excellent fathers have been hung out to dry by the courts and the aftermath of their decisions - as a former public school principal I found that such situations are commonplace.

    Although most people do their best to make single parent family situations loving, secure and stable environments in which to raise children; many struggle.

    The proportion of single parent families in our society is of concern due to the load placed on chronically under-resourced systems to assist with the provision of support - where those systems fail people fall through some pretty horrible cracks!

    Many responsible fathers on the receiving end of the courts are forced to live in virtual poverty and almost denied access to their kids until they become adults. This is tragic and a national disgrace!

    Even Tony Abbott thought he had sired a child out of wedlock only to find decades later that there was no DNA match. My guess is that he would have been tormented by this and still carries scars as a consequence.
