New Hope emerges as backer of Senex

New Hope Corporation has apparently emerged as the backer for Senex Energy's potential move on Acer Energy, a Cooper Basin oil and gas explorer. Investors were reportedly informed that New Hope is willing to help Senex's bid for a 6.42% stake in Acer. The theory in some quarters is that the coalminer plans to acquire the combined Senex-Acer or at the very least take a significant stake. Buying Senex/Acer would both help satisfy New Hope's aim of tripling oil output over the next three years and fit with its interest in unconventional coal seam and shale gas.
