One of the biggest changes is the need now to actually lock up the house when going out. When I was young (60's child) we would just pull it shut, no need to lock it. Now houses are regularly burgled via the back door whilst the occupants are in the front yard. Disgusting.
Only place like it I have been in recent years was way up in Mountain Province in the Philippines. There was no lock on the hotel door, and when we mentioned it they just shrugged and said "no thieves around here". Refreshing.
