I wouldn't be using a hedge for the chickens, unless there was 20mm wire mesh behind it - too many snakes let alone foxes just to let the chooks free range around here.
No hedging required at this stage, IMHO. If & when ADO's revenue heads North of 10M then revisit the question - too much waste of resources for little gain or "protection".
