MS got the 22.4% stake in MS when they converted convertible bonds they set up during the GFC. It is only due to that that conversion that they need to declare the MS shares. The shares do NOT, I repeat NOT (where's the bold font tag:), belong to Mitsubhishi. They belong to MS - well at least until they sell them. Given that there is no corresponding increase in the Mitsubishi direct holdings Mitsubishi is not buys, so the question would be who is?...
