real tradesmen versus newbie handyman, page-44

There was a leak in the tin roof, it dripped into the kitchen, the newest flash as a pan, pro quoted me $500 to fix the tin roof, 2 new sheets, painted the same colour as the existing roof, fix the plaster in the kitchen ceiling etc....

I was organising this from Melb, the house is in Albury, this mongrel rattled off his credentials....
I paid the next day, as soon as his invoice came via email

When I was next in Albury, I noticed he had replaced the tin with 2 very old pieces, not new, nor painted.
Another tradesman had to go up to fix the kitchen ceiling, when he opened the man hole, he saw daylight....there were 5 holes the size of a thumb, in the roofing tin the other mongrel had put on.

Another put in my new all white tiles in the bathroom, again after I inspected, I noted ugly gray spots in the grout, between the tiles, got another handyman to fix it, he dug up cigarette ash......

My new whiz bang gardener, who looked after 2 of my props, stole a huge cactus ball display, and a Japanese Maple tree....

when he cut down the trees, he left all the branches and rubbish on the front lawn...luckily I had family to inspect the work before I paid him for that job. And I refused to pay until he cleaned it up, as that was the deal.

I was not aware of the stolen plants until later.

He was the only one with a key to the gates to the backyard, the only one with access.
I chose not to get the police involved, but rather put it down to experience.
Hence my current handyman can be trusted, that is why I say, when you find someone, who will do a good job, stick with them.
I like my new young electrician too.
I actually have a list of all the mongrels, that I will never use again.
I will not bother to talk about the house painter, and his job, between tenants.

Truthfully, I have used a load of tradesmen over the years, and the majority have done a good job.....its only the mongrels that stick in my mind.

So apologies to the good tradesmen out there. You are not all tarred to the one brush...so to speak.
    cheers
