Perhaps you prefer the Cecil B. de Mille version of history. Great old movies.
The programme was very telling with many scientists providing input. Interestingly a comment was made that many archeologists have refrained from publishing findings because of the stir they would likely cause - i.e. undermine the belief system and if I recall correctly, have an impact on M.E. politics.
