China is still manufacturing goods that carry Western licences. Their next move, if it comes, is manufacturing home designed products and that may take a lot longer. So many innovations are already patented, so there may not be much left. Japan has a lot of money invested in China as has America; the battle is on between the American consumer and the Asian manufacturer. If too many jobs are lost in the West, then the money will dry up for purchases. I do not think the West can just be shop assistants: China is buying arms and aircraft but possibly not enough to balance the trade. Much more volatility ahead as the trade balances rock and roll.
