GENERAL: SUM: Summerset named best in Australasia third year running
SUMMERSET NAMED BEST IN AUSTRALASIA THIRD YEAR RUNNING
Retirement village operator Summerset has been recognised as the best
retirement village operator in Australasia for the third year in a row.
More than 50 retirement village operators across Australia and New Zealand
were judged for the award. Between them they operate more than 1,100
retirement villages.
Summerset CEO Norah Barlow received the honour at the 14th Australasian over
50's Housing Awards in Melbourne on Friday afternoon.
Just two other companies have taken out the title in consecutive years,
including New Zealand's Ryman Healthcare which won the award the two years
prior to Summerset.
Summerset was established on the Kapiti Coast in 1997. It now has 15
retirement villages from Warkworth to Dunedin.
The awards celebrate excellence in senior housing and retirement villages, a
sector that has shown strong growth across Australasia in the last five to
six years.
Mrs Barlow said "the competition is tough. In this sector we are constantly
driving each other to be more innovative and provide more and more for our
customers.
"The sector is large in both countries, that a New Zealand company has come
out on top once again says a lot about the quality all New Zealand operators
are providing to our older people.
"We are very proud that our ongoing effort at Summerset has been recognised
by the industry as a whole. Our staff are excellent and a huge thank you goes
out to them.
"We want to be the best in the business. Winning this award is a lovely
acknowledgment, but really what tells me we are achieving is that almost
2,000 New Zealanders have chosen to make Summerset home."
Speaking from Melbourne, award convenor Ann Richards said Summerset stood out
because of its unwavering commitment to being a totally customer centric
company.
"Summerset has assembled the best all round management team in Australasia.
It is unique in that it has managed to combine balance sheet drive and
maintain 'customer centric' policies.
"The growth of the brand owes much to this ethos."
