Anyone who thinks Malaysian system is stuffed should really take a look at the australian system haha!

Just to name a few:

Maules Creek Coal Project - Been awaiting approvals for 2 years to get on site. Got on-site approval then got taken back with need to further EIS data, then a further final hurdle in resolving creek diversions etc.

And thats just a simple coal mine. Rio-tinto's second alumina refinery in gladstone took 11 years to get full approval.

The only reason you don't hear as much about it, is that in australia its standard practice to take a long time to get environmental approvals and as such, companies prepare and lodge them well in advance of a project even becoming feasible.

In my opinion, this plant would have the same issues if it was being built in Australia, or even worse, as we have a majority green senate (voted for by people..sigh) versus a minority protest group..
