re: the legality of ShiT cerhob, there are thousands of options. The notion of putting some hugely expensive razor wire prison in the hottest part of Australia, allowing it to be run by a security business with a history of being an abysmal failure and a bunch of cruel thugs, charging the people in it (refugees) heaps of money while at the same time you're not allowing them to get out, while at the same time you're treating them as if they're not human, while at the same time you're doing everything in your power to make them suffer, while at the same time you're CUTTING OFF parts of Australia and beaurocratically disown them (all it would take is for the Indos to deliver a claim at that time and we'd be in the real toilet bowl!) while at the same time paying a fortune to open similar prisons in other countries/islands is OBVIOUS to everyone on this globe that you DON'T care to have anything to do with refugees, that you are racist, that you are turning your country into a gruesome fortress and that, you are not interested in finding out what brought them to your shores.

A policy which is to deal with humans must have at its core, humaneness, compassion for the plight of those who seek your aid. You begin with that premise. How best to ameliorate the extremely difficult circumstances these people are in, not how best to take away even the very last vestige of hope they have.
First give them shelter! Not prison, shelter. Food, clothing, education medical aid. We are big enough and with a very big heart (we used to anyway until this shrivelled up scrooge turned up with his american/woodrow wilson as s-licking) to accommodate thousands of them. If you're pinching your pennies (while at the same time you allow thuggish corporate heads to run away with billions in their pockets) then do a calculation of what was spent on these prisons which were rightly names "australia's poisons" and what it would cost if we had done the right thing by them.
Cops reckon they have the ability to track down the whereabouts of pedophiles. Surely, if they can do this with the unwilling crooks imagine how much easier it would be doing it with people who would want to show good behaviour so as to get a visa or a beaurocratic piece of paper which would allow them to stay.
Also, there would be dozens of (private, ethnic community) welfare organizations, (Iraqi, Iranian, etc) that would be all too willing to take care of the refugees in all sorts of healthy environments AND keep an eye on them since their own reputation would be at stake.
BUT THIS IS TOO SIMPLE AND TOO MUCH AGAINST THE FEAR MONGERING MIND AND TWISTED HEART THIS LITTLE "CHILDREN OVERBOARD" worm of a man could cope with. His face, his body language, his stupid looking skull all say, "No, it's my party and I'll dance if I want to!"
