Lucas your articles are pure garbage especailly the first one. Blame the welfare state indeed! I would laugh at the suggestion if it wasn't so sad/pathetic. What welfare state? These are people that the state has forgotten about. People that the state abandoned because they were black and because they had no resources of their own to help themselves. You have only to look at other countries with a much better developed welfare state as you put it to see that they do a whole lot better than in the US. Take Australia for example during the Canberra fires. Welfare state has nothing to do with it. What is so sad is the cynical opportunity taken by the right wingers to turn this into a political issue....
