I wonder if heavy punters rant and rave about how badly the trainer has prepped a dead cert horse or have a go at the jockey for not riding well enough on the day. I guess so because so many seem to fail to take responsibility for thier own actions.

You'd be amazed (maybe not) at how many people have a go at the traffic cop who pulls themup for speeding or going through a red light. Its never their fault, just a fault of the system.
