One expects that a therapeutic drug will alleviate symptoms. The goal, however, is to find a cure. Note the following results from the mouse model for Fragile X;
Anxiety and locomotor activity - NNZ-2566 reduces hyperactivity
My note: it appears to be a case of alleviating symptoms
Deficit in short term memory - reversed by NNZ-2566
Abnormal social interactions - reversed by NNZ-2566
Abnormalities in CNS and peripheral morphology - reversed by NNZ-2566
My note: could this be indicative of a cure?
Could this explain why Dr Horrigan is "very excited" and why Neuren - with limited financial resources - is considering additional clinical trials in other autism spectrum disorders. It was the Army that pressed Neuren to proceed with the oral formulation for NNZ-2566 even though it had its hands full with the intravenous formulation. Expect another one of our key partners to come forward.
