The fund became the centre of controversy in March when the Kalgoorlie Miner revealed the union had used $80,000 from the fund to buy its Boulder headquarters.
    ...
Ms Gillard said it had been unclear if the union was trustee for the fund, which made its legal status uncertain.

She said this uncertainty would have caused problems if there had been a need for court action.
    ...
He [Mr Wilson] said it was the union's initiative to formalise its trustee status, rather than a reaction to criticism following the Miner's [newspaper] revelations.

The AWU tapped into the funds cash to buy an asset from the AWU in March 1992 (office purchased by AWU in 1986).

In May Bruce & Julia make the AWU trustee of the fund.

Question: Was the AWU authorised to make that transaction in March if they only became official trustees in May? (prior status was uncertain Julia says)
