I don't think the fact it is the royals is even relevant except for the fact that the world wide notoriety of the prank as a result probably exacerbated the situation.
Setting aside the royal issue we have a sick young woman with a baby, and 2 DJs make a prank call and impersonate a relative to get sensitive personal information which they put to air without seeking permission.
Pretty unethical conduct in any event.
