But we don't agree on timing. I reckon the time has long passed when they would simply dump on an idea because it isn't oil.

They just don't need to protect their oil interests, the state-owned oilers set the price and they can sell all they can produce into the market, and always will be able to do so. Renewables are not a threat, just another opportunity. To say that Big Oil is trying to kill off the idea of AGW is to simply parrot Greenpeace, not coming to a considered opinion.
