Couple of things HC,many branches of science have been attacked here at one time or another,because you are late to the table I suppose I cannot be too hard on you for making wrong assumptions,you missed out on the discussion on the scientists backing the tobacco industry,scientists swearing on behalf of the commonwealth that Agent Orange was not harmful to our troops,Thalidomide could not do any harm to babies in the womb,that organochlorines could do no harm to living tissue (particularly DDT )If needed it is easy to find a long list of drugs--passed by scientists--now proven to be harmful,perhaps you can begin to see why healthy scepticism is necessary ?
Your view of quantities of fuel used is to say the least simplistic ,you do understand that the fuel does not arrive there by itself?also to figure a cruising speed consumption is a mile away from the actual usage and of course not all planes are created equal.
I find your approach to be very defensive of the establishment which is fine as they are probably paying your wages,many others here do not have that constraint ,just as a little aside I am talking about Co2 produced -not energy consumed ,easy to be confused.
